The Dumbbell Nebula, A.K.A Messier 27/M27/NGC6853/Apple Core Nebula is a Planetary Nebula (like the Ring Nebula that we saw last week) in the Constellation Vulpecula, situated at a distance of ~11,608,316,289,856,600 km (1227ly) from us.
By looking at the Dark Green Region (vertical one), we can understand why it was named so.
It lies within the Summer Triangle (an asterism connecting the Stars Vega, Altair & Deneb), along the Altair - Deneb edge.
This was the first Planetary Nebula discovered by French Astronomer Charles Messier (who catalogued 110 comet like Deep Sky Objects - the notation Mxx that you guys see in most of my images comes from this catalogue ).
