Equipment for Beginners with DSLR

Hello,

I’m thrilled to be part of this community. To start, I would really like your expertise for equipment recommendation.

I already own a dslr - Nikon d7500, with lenses: 18-140mm, 55-200mm, 11-16 f2.8, 50mm f1.8.

My interest is visual & astrophotography ( planetary & some DSO such as Andromeda, orion, etc.)

My intension right now is getting a manual EQ mount and RA motor. I intend therefore to start with my dslr, and later get a telescope.

Is this a good way to start, and if so, what mount would you recommend?

If you have better recommendations, please share :folded_hands:t3:

A DSLR is a good way to get started in astrophotography. With your lenses, you can take startrails, milkyway photos, Moon and Sun (with solar filter on) put planets will appear nothing bigger than a dot.

You can however see Galilean moons around Jupiter and can capture close conjuctions or occultations with Moon and planets.

Now as far as DSOs are concerned, you can easily capture Orion, Andromeda, Whirlpool galaxy, Pleiades, Pinwheel galaxy and much more.

I have used an MSM nomad skytracker and I highly recommend it. It’s simple to use, portable and requires minimal supporting equipments. All you need is a sturdy tripod, a couple of ballheads and you are good to go !

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or need any specific information. All the best !
