A Night of Stardust and Science: CAC & IIT Madras

In April 2026, the Chennai Astronomy Club hosted an overnight stargazing camp at a dark-sky farmhouse outside the city. The pristine horizon provided a perfect cosmic theater for veterans, newcomers, and brilliant young minds.

Our core mission was hands-on mentorship:

  • Visual Astronomy: We taught star-hopping and averted vision. Participants were thrilled by views of Jupiter, distant nebulae, and star clusters resembling diamond dust on black velvet.
  • Astrophotography: We broke down long exposures, tracking Earth’s rotation, and dialing in pin-point focus to freeze the cosmos in time.

The sheer energy of the younger crowd rivaled the stars. Pulling an absolute all-nighter, these enthusiasts actively engaged the team and offered fantastic pointers for future events, proving Tamil Nadu’s astronomy community has a bright future.

Adding academic brilliance, a contingent of IIT Madras students focused on Astronomical Spectroscopy. Armed with telescopes and diffraction gratings, they enthusiastically spent the night decoding the chemical signatures and temperatures of different stellar classes, blending scientific rigor with pure hobbyist joy.

As dawn broke in shades of pink and gold, the exhilarated crowd left with one unanimous thought: we cannot wait for the next dark-sky expedition!2026-04-17T18:30:00Z
